This large feather is made of 5-7 oz leather, hand cut, hand tooled, and then hand molded into the shape you see. After it is allowed ample time to dry it is dyed with three coats of a base alcohol leather dye which helps in the stiffening process. The feather is then base painted with Royal Gold acrylic paint with up too 3-5 coats to allow for beautiful color. The spot painting on this feather was done where each color has a chance to show on top but starting with the vanilla is spot painted all the way down from where it starts on top. This can be done where each spot painted color only overlaps a little. The feather is then finished with the base color being used again to accent the main vein and the tooled grooves. Then I used a gold glitter paint to paint the grooves and really set them off. The matching wire was then added with a matching bead in this case a nice gunmetal pearl to match the pewter ash tone at the base of the feather.
