This is my first complete headdress. It is shown here on a short white wig purchased from thefivewits.com. I picked the wig up at a convention this weekend.
The headdress consists of 8 small leaves and 1 large leaf. Three of the small leaves are clustered to make one of the attachment points for the headdress. The cluster, large leaf, and then each small lead each has their own barrettes.
Each leaf is hand cut, the small leaves are 3-4 oz leather and the large leaf is 8-10 oz leather. They are hand tooled as well. Each leaf is then water molded and let to dry. They have 3 base coats of black alcohol based dye to help in the stiffening process. They then have 2-3 base coats of Bronze Acrylic leather paint dye to further help the stiffening. Then they are painted with several different layers of different purples with silver and then the veins are repainted Bronze to stand out. They were then affixed to the barrettes that were originally black but painted with the same Bronze paint to maintain color.
All of the chains and findings are Bronze colored findings to match. The center jewel in the forehead is an emerald cut synthetic amethyst with a Bronze dragonfly used as a holder by being wrapped around it. Resin was used to set the gem for extra stability.
The barrettes work very well with this wig, holding the headdress in place. Each of the leaves on the end of the chains are light weight and can be placed in different placed on the head for different effects to the look. Because the wig has a net head cover under the hair the barrettes held very well. For regular hair, an optional headband could be used and could be made to easily convert from headband with the two large fixed leaves/cluster to free positioning without the headband for wig use.
This headdress may or may not be for sale unless certain interest in peaked. However, I do take custom orders. I also do individual barrettes which can be found on my Etsy website. Feel free to drop me a convo on either here or on etsy.[link]
